- < 5% residual fat content for sheepskin nappaWhen processing small skins from goats and sheep, many tanneries aim for a maximum residual fat content of 5%. Novocor ADL® helps them achieve their goal for sheepskin nappa.
- Batch-to-batch uniformityResidual grease leads to inconsistent dyeing, and a range of other quality issues. These affect batch-to-batch uniformity. By minimizing residual grease Novocor ADL® gives your customers greater batch-to-batch uniformity.
- Improves waterproofing effectThis product breaks down fat to make it more mobile. That means it can distribute itself evenly throughout the pelt, rather than gathering to prevent uniform distribution of waterproofing products. Even fat distribution also means that traditional degreasing with surfactants can be reduced or eliminated. This facilitates the production of waterproof and low fogging stock.
- Reduces solvent and surfactant usage in dry cleaningIn small skins from goats and sheep the fat is embedded between the grain surface and the corium. That makes it very hard to remove. BOWE dry cleaning machines use costly solvents and surfactants. With Novocor ADL®, your customers can reduce solvent and surfactant usage for cost savings.
Improper or inadequate processing can result in losses in the usable cutting area. Novocor AX® relaxes the hide without making it too loose. The result is increased area yield and no negative effect on the cutting yield.
This product contains enzymes. While enzymes are safe to use in consumer applications, they need correct handling in working environments to ensure workers’ safety.
Indeed, repeated inhalation of enzyme dust or aerosols resulting from improper handling may induce sensitization and may cause allergic type 1 reactions in sensitized individuals.
Please follow the precautionary handling recommendations below:
- Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray
- Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or clothing
- In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection
- IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing
- If experiencing respiratory symptoms: Call a POISON CENTER or a doctor
- Store in a dry place. Store in a closed container
- Dispose of contents/containers in accordance with local regulations

How an elastase-active enzyme works in leather area expansion
Intact elastin in wet blue prevents relaxation of the grain layer. That reduces area. Elastase-active enzymes partly degrade the elastin to increase area and improve softness.
Elastin is a retractile protein concentrated in the grain layer of hides and skins. Intact elastin tends to prevent the relaxation of the grain layer. That reduces the area of wet blue hides.
Due to its amino acid composition, elastin isn't tanned during chrome tanning. That's why tanneries need elastase-active enzymes on tanned wetblue.
These enzymes partly degrade the elastin. The results are increased area and improved softness, with no negative impact on strength. Elastase-active enzymes can also increase the cuttable area into the normally loose belly area. That leads to an even larger improvement in area.
