Cellusoft® for denim abrasion

Selected products in the Novonesis Cellusoft® family are designed to work with the water-saving DeniSafe® system. This system enables safe use of enzymes in new low-water washing machines using mist technology. Cellusoft® products give excellent results in enzymatic abrasion of denim.
Product features, details and benefits
- Saves up to 90% water
Using Cellusoft® products in the DeniSafe® system allows your laundry to save up to 90% water compared to conventional washing machines. That's because the fabric is only wetted with a mist of water without the traditional soaking in the washing machine.
- Spray technology for improved worker safety
Enzymes have the potential to create safety issues when sprayed. Selected products in the Cellusoft® family are low-temperature and low-protein. That allows them to deliver high performance without impacting worker safety when used in the DeniSafe® system.
- Minimum strength lossStonewashing with pumice stones can over-abrade the fabric, leading to strength loss. Hems, waistbands and accessories are particularly vulnerable to damage. Products in this family give you excellent abrasion with a high degree of process control. That ensures minimum strength loss.
- Reduced back staining and improved garment contrastBack staining is the redeposition of released indigo onto denim garments. It leads to re-colouration of blue threads and blue coloration of white threads. That reduces contrast. The products in this family help to reduce backstaining and improve garment contrast.
- Excellent abrasion without pumice stone useA small dose of this product can replace several kilograms of stones. That means less wear on machines, less pumice dust in the working environment and less sediment in wastewater. It also means no need for time-consuming removal of dust and small stones from the finished garments. Fewer stones in laundry machines means more room for garments, which improves productivity.
- A more sustainable processStonewashing with pumice creates substantial amounts of sludge. This has an environmental impact and lead to high treatment costs. With products in this family you can avoid these costs and reduce your mill's environmental footprint.
How cellulase enzymes work in denim abrasion
Cellulases break down microfibrils on denim fibers’ surface to release indigo. That exposes the undyed interior for a stonewashed effect without pumice stones.
The indigo used to dye denim only penetrates the surface of the yarn fiber. That leaves the center light in color.
The cellulose molecules that form the fibers of cotton fabrics consist of long glucose chains. Cellulase molecules bind to exposed microfibrils on the surface of the yarn and break them down. That - along with mechanical action - releases blue indigo dye from the surface. Cellulases leave the interior part of the cotton fiber intact. The result is that the lighter areas in the interior of the fiber become visible and appear as fading on the surface of the denim. Textile laundries use cellulases to get fashionable stonewashed looks without the use of pumice stones.

This product contains enzymes. While enzymes are safe to use in consumer applications, they need correct handling in working environments to ensure workers’ safety.
Indeed, repeated inhalation of enzyme dust or aerosols resulting from improper handling may induce sensitization and may cause allergic type 1 reactions in sensitized individuals.
Please follow the precautionary handling recommendations below:
- Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray
- Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or clothing
- In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection
- IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing
- If experiencing respiratory symptoms: Call a POISON CENTER or a doctor
- Store in a dry place. Store in a closed container
- Dispose of contents/containers in accordance with local regulations
