Pregnancy and motherhood

During pregnancy, a woman’s body goes through major physical, hormonal, and emotional changes. For mothers-to-be, this special time brings with it unique concerns about their health and wellbeing as their bodies change and their babies develop.

Health for two (or more!)

The changes that occur during pregnancy impact the natural balance of the microbiome. For the mother-to-be, it can lead to occasional  digestive discomfort and require extra support to her immune system1.

These changes also play a vital role in the development of her baby’s microbiome. Throughout pregnancy and birth, the mother helps her baby establish and develop a healthy gut microbiota2.

Healthy pregnant woman

A good outcome for you, her and the little one

When you help a coming mother with probiotics for her pregnancy issues, she’s both helping herself and setting the stage for successfully seeding her baby’s microbiome.

Nature orchestrates an amazing series of events meant to produce a healthy infant. At birth, the mother helps her baby establish a healthy microbiota that will contribute to its healthy development4.

Mom’s with the tendency of having red, itchy skin want to help prevent it in their babies since it can lead to other skin challenges down the road5,6.

Istilos™ — just what she’s looking for

In late pregnancy, hormonal changes increase the amount of Bifidobacteria in a woman’s gut,7 so she can pass these on when she seeds her infant’s microbiota.

Istilos™ is a Bifidobacteria known to thrive in the infant gut and is thought to help develop the immune system and support gut barrier function.8,9

So she knows she’s giving her baby the best start.

More biotics that are good for mom and baby

Do your customers believe more strains equals more relevance?

Looking for growth with a winning product?

The Astarte™ probiotic is a combination of bacterial species commonly found in healthy vaginal microbiotas. After careful research into the specific traits of many strains isolated from healthy women, four Lactobacillus or Lacticaseibacillus strains were selected that represent the four most dominant vaginal species.

Astarte™ won “Probiotic of the Year” at the 2019 NutraIngredients Awards, where the judges noted its strong science and market success. So if you’re looking for a winning product for vaginal health, build it with an acclaimed probiotic.

What’s on your mind?

Like mother like baby (when it comes to microbiota)

When a mother gifts her baby with a microbiome during birth, that becomes the basis for lifelong health. At six months old, more than 80% of bacterial strains in a baby’s microbiota are still same as the mothers.

A good start is important, as a baby’s microbiome helps it develops a strong gut and immune system and even influences brain development and metabolism — especially in the development window up to 24 months.15
